Every job has its own risks, including in terms of lung health. But there are 10 jobs that can be risky and harmful to lung health.
"Most types of lung disease can be prevented due to work, the simple steps in controlling exposure and also can reduce risk," said Philip Harber, MD, professor and head of the UCLA Occupational and Environmental Medicine Division, as quoted from the Health, Friday ( 21/01/2011).
Here are 10 areas of work that may pose a risk to the health of one's lungs are:
Construction
Workers can inhale the dust of demolition or renovation activities at risk of contracting lung cancer, mesothelioma and asbestos, which is a disease that causes scarring and stiffness in the lungs. For that necessary protective clothing including respirator (special masks) when working around the building and avoid smoking.
Manufacturing
Factory worker could be exposed to dust, chemicals and gases that can increase the risk of COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). Certain chemicals such as diacetyl flavorings used in microwave popcorn, wine and food plants could cause a devastating disease is bronchiolitis obliterans. Simple steps such as wearing a mask when using hazardous chemicals can reduce the risk.
Health workers
It is estimated that about 8-12 percent of health workers is very sensitive to the existing powder on latex gloves, which can cause severe reactions or trigger asthma, allergies.
Textiles
Byssinosis or known by the name of brown lung disease is a common condition among textile workers who make seats, towels, socks, sheets and clothing. When the cotton is separated will create some dust that causes significant damage to the air flow, these particles also exist from other materials. To reduce wear mask, improving ventilation and avoiding tobacco.
Bartender
Serving drinks in a room full of cigarette smoke placing bartenders at high risk of lung disease, particularly if regularly exposed to secondhand smoke and for many years.

Automotive Industry
Workers in particular automotive repair car body parts are very likely to develop asthma. This is because products such as spray paint and polyurethane isocyanate may cause skin irritation, allergies, shortness of breath and cause severe breathing difficulties. Transport Workers
Truck drivers, public transport and those who served in the loading and unloading at risk of COPD. This condition is often affected due to air pollution from motor vehicles, especially diesel exhaust.
Mining
The miners at high risk of a number of lung diseases such as COPD (due to dust exposure) and silicosis (scarring disease of the lungs due to silica Airborne). Meanwhile, coal miners at risk of lung disease called pneumokoniosis (black lung). This disease is a long term investment, hence the use of masks that can filter fine dust can help.
Firefighters
Firefighters at risk of inhaling smoke and various chemicals that may exist inside the burning building. Exposure to toxic materials and asbestos is a risk that often occurs after the fire goes out. For that respiratory protective equipment should always be used at all stages of extinction fire, including when officers combing the rubble to make sure the fire is not lit anymore.

Working in the mines also pose a risk of asbestos mesothelioma. Some of my friends who worked at the mine has a disease like this.
Great post, I was particularly interested in your mention of the powder on latex gloves and will be researching this further.
It's sad to note that even those who make food at the bakery are even at risk with their health. Informative post, keep up the good work!
Exercise like running can promote better blood circulation and stronger cells. By running several times a week, the cells and the walls of the lungs become more flexible and resilient which can avoid any lung disease.
so many risk factors for our lung got the cancer.
thanks for listing up.
Really an eye opener information that such jobs can lead a risk to lung disesase...
